7-11-13 What a delightful day in Homer. Yesterday we went across the bay to the Center for Coastal Studies. A close view of Gull Island – sea birds nesting ---
With the huge tide differences – often more than 18’ – they had a small barge to transport us from the dock. It operates with rope pulleys – so everyone had to walk pulling the rope to get us to the stairs, then re-pull it out for the tide changes. The morning was then spent tide pooling at low tide for various sea creatures….. What a perfect day …..
The board walk was the easy part…..
It’s time to return to Homer – what great views of the coast mtns.
Today we visited the Pratt Museum – so much packed into this museum. And in the garden is Rhubarb! Have you ever seen it so big?
We are parked along the bay near the ‘Fishing Hole’ on the Homer Spit – a popular spot for fishing. Also near by is a table for trimming fish. The gulls sure do raise a ruckus waiting for their free lunch!
Enjoying the Alaskan Adventure --- always something new to see and enjoy!
