April 28 we crossed the border at Sumas, WA / Abbottsford, BC. taking Hwy #1

Looking for ‘free’ and easy, we stopped a the Log Cabin Pub - some 50’ long logs - in Spences Bridge – for dinner and ‘free’ camping for the 1st night. Hey, it’s chilly up north!

This is it – the day we cross into Canada heading north to the Alaskan Highway.

From North Ranch – Congress, AZ to Sumas, WA = ~1600 miles

North to Dawson Creek =                                       ~700+ miles

on to Tok, Alaska =                                             ~1300+ miles

to Fairbanks =                                                       ~200+ miles

to Anchorage =                                                      ~300+ miles

                   Basic Miles                                    ~4200+ miles

                   + lots of side trips

We’ll keep you posted along the way, when we have wi-fi.

What a nice surprise to have friends Bill & Vickie Rigden visiting in Seattle while we are here.The Chihuly Garden and glass exhibit is exceptionally beautiful.  What a nice place to spend with friends – L>R Denny Orr, Fred & Lynn Persky, Susie Orr, Dot Wilson Lila Dudley and Butch Wilson.  We’ve enjoyed sunshine and delightful days with Butch & Dot.  We plan to begin our Alaskan Adventure 2013 by crossing the border into Canada on Sunday.

Southern Indiana --- well actually New Albany, IN to visit family, have a wrist check-up (all is well!), and do some sight seeing.  Louisville is a beautiful city along the Ohio River. Had planned to make it a quick trip --- but the refrigerator died the ammonia death knoll!  One is reordered and should be on the way again soon.

Drove to Royal Gorge - but WOW! YIKES!  Too tight to pay $26.00 each to see the gorge - so took a picture instead!
